There are many Fantastic Beasts that you can find in Hogwarts Legacy. Most of the time they just run away and when you try to catch them. A creature, however, is much deadlier. Here’s our Hogwarts Legacy Graphorn guide to help you obtain this animal as a mount, as well as capture others if needed.
The Graphorn mount at the San Bakar Trial
To be clear, the Graphorn is currently the only land mount in the Hogwarts Legacy. It won’t become available until you’ve completed San Bakar’s Trial, which is one of the last missions in the game. That way, you’ll only have to progress further through the campaign until it becomes available.
Once you start it, you’ll head to Cragcroft Shore, which is in the southern half of the world map. Use Incendio or Confringo on the vines to reveal a Graphorn Sculpture. From there, you must capture a Graphorn. His lair is located on the Clagmar Coast, at the southeastern tip of the map. You can use your broomstick or flying mount to get there faster.

The Hogwarts Legacy Graphorn is unlike most other Fantastic Beasts you’ve seen in that it’s a boss encounter. He has very basic attacks: he just charges and slams you. But he also has tough skin capable of withstanding a lot of damage. Aside from his Ancient Magic and Ancient Magic Throw, only his red spells (i.e. Expelliarmus, Incendio, Confringo, and Bombarda) will be able to deplete his health.
Focus on the fight and dodge when necessary. After taking it out, a short cutscene will play and you will have a choice:
- Kneel – Show the creature that you are not a threat.
- Attack – subdue the creature with your strength.

Either way, your character will ride the Graphorn. You will be able to use your special charge ability. You can activate this by holding the attack button. He will bulldoze enemies as well as force barricades. However, your stamina will also quickly deplete.
Anyway, follow the waypoints on your minimap and travel along the road until you’re back at the test ground. Speak with the Guardians to complete the Trial of San Bakar quest in Hogwarts Legacy.

Can you capture and tame a Graphorn as you explore?
Yes, it is possible to capture and tame a Graphorn in Hogwarts Legacy, even if you are roaming free. However, you still need to complete San Bakar’s test.
Once you’ve done that, head back to the Graphorn Lair in the southeast corner of the map. You still have to fight the creature waiting for you here and the same mechanics apply (i.e. only red spells and Ancient Magic will deal damage).
After defeating the Graphorn, you can cast the Nab-sack to bring the animal back to your vivarium. That way you can have multiple Graphorns in your sanctuary. Don’t forget to pet and feed them so you can acquire the Graphorn Horn material.
