Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, a GOP congresswoman who stormed a redistricted area outside Tampa with support from Donald Trump, may have exaggerated or altered details about her ethnic heritage, family life and personal experiences with security and guns. fire, according to reports from washington post.
Representative Luna was born Anna Mayerhofer, but changed her name in what she said was a tribute to her mother’s Mexican-American family.
Former colleagues who served with Luna in the Air Force said she never seemed to publicly identify as Hispanic until she left the military and ran for Congress in Florida.
Luna identified herself as “white, not Hispanic” on her 2015 Florida voter registration, the paper found, but later said she was Hispanic on an updated 2019 form.

“O washington post clearly showed the threat that conservative minorities like Rep Luna pose to their leftist control,” said a spokesperson for the congresswoman. The Independent in a statement. “Unfortunately for them, the receipts that Rep Luna is unveiling tonight on primetime television are going to completely blow their story.”
In the campaign, Luna described having had a difficult childhood that left her “battle-hardened” and with a “broken-home mentality”, where she and her single mother lacked “a strong extended network of people”.
Family members told the Publish that was not their experience, sharing photos of Ms. Luna attending various family events and describing extended family members who picked her up as a girl from school when her mother was studying to enroll in law school.
“The whole family kind of raised her – my dad was part of her life when she was younger and we all kind of spoiled her,” Nicole Mayerhofer, a first cousin, told the paper. “She was always a part of everything, all these family gatherings and activities.”
Another notable claim by Luna was that while serving in Missouri, she suffered a “home invasion” that convinced her that she needed a weapon for self-defense.
Police records obtained by Publish show that there was a break-in during the day in the apartment that Mrs. Luna shared with a roommate when none of the women were home.
The roommate told the newspaper that there were already several guns in the house.
The Republican Party has come under scrutiny over the candidate’s quality after investigations and media reports revealed that Congressman Santos made false or exaggerated claims about his religion, education and professional life, and was indicted or charged with various financial crimes.
More recently, it was revealed that Mr. Santos was charged with theft for using bad checks to buy puppies from Amish dog breeders in 2017. (The case was eventually dismissed.)
